TEAS math guide
TEAS math prep compared: free, paid and Lemma
You do not need everything. Here is what each kind of TEAS math prep is good for, what it costs in money and time, and what we think a sensible combination looks like. We make Lemma, so we say plainly where it is not the right tool.
Disclosure: Lemma is our product. Prices below are what we recorded in August 2026 or what the seller lists; check current prices before buying. We have no relationship with the other companies.
The short version
- Buy ATI's official practice assessment if your budget allows only one thing. It is the same instrument as the real exam and the only trustworthy calibrator.
- Use free question banks for extra repetitions.
- Use a step-by-step trainer such as Lemma for the weak math topics your score report shows.
- Hire a tutor only for a stubborn gap that self-study did not fix.
Side by side
| Option | Best for | Cost | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| ATI official practice assessments | Knowing where you really stand, with a score report by subarea | Paid; our August notes list a practice-test package around $69 | Tells you what you missed, not how to fix it |
| Prep books and courses (for example Mometrix) | A full structured review of all four sections, with explanations | Paid; the course price is not published on the site we checked | Static questions; no check of your own working |
| Free question banks (NurseHub, Test-Guide, others) | Cheap extra repetitions and a feel for question wording | Free, with ads or upsells | Answers only; quality of explanations varies |
| Tutors and tutoring centers | A specific stuck point, or math anxiety | Hourly; many community colleges offer it free to enrolled students | Slots and scheduling; cost adds up |
| Lemma | Weak math topics, practiced by typing each step | Free, no account; the AI tutor has a daily limit | Math is the focus; no ATI-form practice tests, so not a score predictor |
What Lemma does differently, and what it does not do
Most TEAS prep checks your final answer. Lemma checks each step you write, using a computer algebra system, not a language model's opinion. When a line is wrong it names the move that broke it, so you learn why you missed and not only that you missed.
- Help is offered after you try, and a problem you needed help on is marked as guided, so your independent record stays honest.
- Topics generate fresh problems, so a retry tests the method.
- It covers the math and has interactive science lessons. Reading passage practice is not built yet.
- It does not simulate an ATI form and it will not predict your real score. Use ATI's practice assessment for that.
A low-cost combination
Take one official ATI practice assessment early, free question banks for volume, and Lemma for the specific math subareas your report flags. That keeps spending to a single paid item and puts most of your hours on the topics that cost you points.

Questions
Do I need to pay for TEAS math prep?
Not necessarily. The math content is public school arithmetic and early algebra, and good free practice exists. The one purchase most worth considering is ATI's own practice assessment, because it measures you on the real format.
Is Lemma a replacement for an ATI practice test?
No. Lemma trains the math skills by checking each step. ATI's practice assessment is the better way to estimate your real score.
Is Lemma free?
Yes. Practice problems and lessons are free with no account or email. The AI tutor has a daily limit.
